tesco hits new low
i’m always intrigued by the tesco junk shelf, but it hit a new low the other day
in amongst the mops and grime is an old french stick

i liked hot the sun was at second floor level only. that’s probably why these houses are triple story rather than the usual two.

dick turpin
we did a few geocaches in Sonning yesterday. one revealed that Dick Turpin’s Aunt lived in this house, and back in its day it had a secret underground horse stable for black bess to pop down in to whilst mr turpin popped in the front door, and later escaped out the backdoor, across the thames bridge and lie low in Oxfordshire.
i never knew that. you can read more about his exploits here
promenading the turkey
a northern british tradition is to ‘walk’ the turkey before eating. after hours of cooking, this process allows the bird to ‘breath’ (it’s last).
in some towns, if you go for a walk in the early afternoon on Xmas day you’ll see dozens of people out promenading their birds

broken glasses
i walked past this run over glasses case on the way to a meeting. i wondered if it had some glasses in, but didn’t pick it up to have a look (for fear of being run over myself)
on the way back from my meeting it had been moved and was now resting on a bollard and the (broken) contents could clearly be seen
