paddingtson station has a bizarre sign policy which involves page numbers on their signs.  it was great to see a new page 3 spread

strange orphaned tower

this little old tower sits in the middle of a road surrounded by modern off ice blocks.  classic london architecture

thomas had an idea to surprise his dad with this picture of him and cousin kezia on our thames path walk last week.  he really wanted the picture to appear on the blog.  so here it is.

hello thomas (and his dad) if you’re reading this !

fantastic knitting pattern cover for balaclavas. not all wearers seem happy in their hats.

day out to greenwich london

081101_850_img_1561.jpg
we went to london with friends yesterday.  started by train then go the tube to embankment where we caught the thames clipper to greenwich.  it’s the only way to travel (if you ignore the other options).  here we are waiting

081101_850_img_1546.jpg

at greenwich we got a bit lost and ended up in a painted room which was very good

081101_850_img_1568.jpg

kezia enjoyed the mirror which saved her looking up

081101_850_img_1577.jpg

it was very rainy so not much sight of docklands

081101_850_img_1585.jpg

but we did watch the 1pm ball drop, something a tour guide described as a “non event”, but one worth watching nevertheless.  we felt thoroughly calibrated.

then, after a few hours wandering around the excellent martime museum we avoided a proper soaking (from the rain and the river) by taking the foot tunnel to the north side of the thames

before getting the driverless DLR to Bank to catch a tube to the train station.  you can see the person driving the driverless train bottom left in this picture

so all in all, an excellent day out and huge thanks to our friends for suggested we went londonwards.

man mending a train by filling it from a watering can

081101_850_img_1627.jpg

the train we were on broke at paddington station so a man had to come and fix it

081101_850_img_1631.jpg

he did this by pouring ‘coolant’ (water?) from a watering can in to the train

081101_850_img_1633.jpg

a train man came and checked he was doing it properly

081101_850_img_1634.jpg

and finally a third one arrived to watch.  train journey increased by an extra half an hour but worth it for the watering can pictures
