downtown graveyard

there’s something quite restful about graveyards.  i suppose that’s the point.

floating grave stone

the edge of this grave was floating over the grass below it.  there’s probably some deathly pun here, but since comments still aren’t working we’ll have to just store them up for some later thinking !

sad stories of have a go heroes

there’s a little park near st paul’s cathedral which has a whole row of memorial stones for people who died whilst trying (not all successfully) to save others.

the stories are fascinating yet really sad.  well worth clicking on the pictures to read the inscriptions.

i’ve walked through this park loads of times but this was the first time i’ve spotted them.  i was actually looking for this

it’s all going wrong in the graveyard

perhaps reflecting the decay beneath the ground, many gravestone statues seem to be losing parts and even entire limbs

if you can keep your head when all those around you are losing theirs, perhaps you are the cause ?

i apologise for hte amount of gravestones i’m going to post in the next few weeks.  i’ll try and theme them so it’s not too tedious.  anyway, these appealed to me as they seem to show the method of death.  can you imagine if all gravestones had to done this way ? it would make them more interesting and more sad and tasteless all at the same time.

actually, ignore me.

tears

080212_350d_img_1887.jpg

is this a crying statue in brompton cemetry ?

080212_350d_img_1886.jpg

these statues are life sized, so this was quite a big grave !
