ANZAC day
Anzac day is a public holiday here which means you get the day off. but only if it falls on a week day. so the bank holiday is effectively ‘lost’.
but it’s still a hugely important day for New Zealanders and Australians and we were proud to go to a service where Esther was involved through her school.
catering seemed to date back to the times of the great wars with giant sponge cakes and sandwiches with their crusts removed

weta’s are very strange beasties. here’s one which was dead on a footpath. it’s a tree weta. you can read more about wetas here

the show was like a living bric-a-brac shop full of fun and laughing
you know sometimes you go to something and you think, wow, that was special. well, that was how it was. And you can go and see it yourself on either of the next two sundays if you are in Auckland !

things really are the other way up down here. road markings are read from the bottom row upwards which sometimes results in strange two way meanings if read in the other direction.

new meals are a good thing for a restaurant. i recon
the strange mannequins of wellington
there was an art thing in Wellington a few weeks back. this made for some exciting mannequin window action which changed everyday. there were more mannequin murders throughout the week and the bodies were removed and drawn round like police investigations etc. excellent stuff
and this last one seemed to involve planting bottom seeds. by the end of the week there were loads of bums in there.
