london is a smashing place for tourists
someone was disillusioned with the Sherlock Holmes museum and smashed their mug on Queen Anne street. i hope they found solace (shoelace ?) in the man hole covers on this street.
where’s pete ?
pete’s gone flying round scotland. as you do.
we’ve been taking it in turns wearing his shoes round the office.
of course we haven’t as anotherman’s shoes are his castle. but i did take a photo of them:
they can’t get up ramps
now this is very strange. after spotting the 4 fire extinguishers on the way to work this morning, i just saw this one on the floor near my office (about 15 minutes walk from the others).
this one has obviously failed to make it up this ramp. making it even more stupid than a darlek.
a numbered car
i’m still searching for all those numbered minis. here is my latest spot. number 286
the flag
for a while our national flags were hijacked by upleasant nationalists and had a general association with thuggery.
this year things have changed. the english flag is flying from many buildings and cars. maybe we have turned in to a nation of thugs and racists ? the election results will be out soon and we’ll know for sure.
it’s nice to see a bit of colour though. and it’s only right that the BBC building is flying the flag (the english not british one). they have a small flag in the middle of the tarpaulins.
more extinguishers
one was bad enough, but here’s a whole army. i walked past slowly so i wouldn’t cause a repeat of last week’s attack.
quality hotel signage
i suspect this isn’t the official ‘vacancy’ sign in this hotel. or maybe it is.
it makes you wonder what it’s like inside !
how to avoid parking fees
here’s a nice idea. sick of paying expensive car parking fees at one of Londons 9 million (approximately) parking meters ? well, why not do as this person has. take your car apart and put it in a variety of plastic bags.
voting
it’s the local and euro elections today. i’m working from home so took an hour out to pick up esther from school and wander down to vote. writing documents is boring, but at least you can be flexible with how you arrange your day.
anyway, here is this year’s voting story:
esther and my registration card:
last year there was no golf allowed. this year, thanks to a venue change, there were all sorts of additional entertainments (as if putting an ‘x’ in a box on a piece of paper wasn’t entertaining enough):
here is the mobile voting booth. they wouldn’t let me take a photo of my voting slip, so i didn’t:
after all that hard work, esther and i went in to the pub for cokes and crisps before heading home:
dog
a red dog on a yellow background. note the angle of its behind.
man hole cover
i find great amusement in man hole covers which have been put back at the wrong angle so that any street writing (eg double yellow lines) suddenly go at a differnet angle.
you probably don’t have a clue what i’m on about. that’s my fault, not yours, so don’t worry.
anyway, here is a man hole cover in the middle of the pavement nowhere near any double yellows. maybe it means no parking very small cars (or helicopters) on this manhole.

chalk counting
welsh negatives
i got an email earlier today containing these negatives which mase found in the street in Cardiff. he says:
“I found a negative strip of 4 frames whilst walking to work today I work in Cardiff and found the strip discarded on a side street. The details are 8:55a.m. on Windsor Lane, Cardiff. I’ve scanned the print and have attached it.”
after a bit of manipulation in photoshop it looks like this when un-negatived:
soon and very soon i shall update davescollections with my latest finds and add it. thanks Mase !
