more junk

here is the answer to lack of storage space for the homeless. it’s part of the government’s scheme called ‘drawer for the poor’ (sounds more convincing when said with a Yorkshire access ‘draw-er for the po-or’
DSC08102.jpg
meanwhile the outside heating concept (also for the homeless perhaps) is proving so popular they’ve also provided more radiators and a television set (as i suggested for a different application last week)

strangest dog sign

i spotted this sign on a door to pub which doesn’t sell food on a sunday night in Hartley Wintney on our way back. we were dissapointed by the food, but over the moon (non eclipsed) about this sign-spot.
a bloke behind the pub asked for the URL of the website, so maybe he’ll leave a comment and tell me the name of the pub so i recommend it to dog sign spotters everywhere ?

ferry sign

here is the sign coming back on the chain ferry. i used flash to get the photo as it was dark and for some reason the camera totally ignores the background !

ash

here is a tree called ash. i have a colleague called ash. they are not the same

corfe castle

here we are at corfe castle. it was deliberately knocked down by the Parliamentarians after the civil war, hence the mess
DSC08048.jpg
it’s in a ideal location for castle – on top of a little pointy hill with great views in every direction.

more bournemouth

Jane’s parents kindly offered to look after esther and kezia for the weekend. we couldn’t believe our luck and quickly booked a weekend away in Bournemouth using lastminute.com.
it was excellent to spend time just jane and I (no Internet or children). we missed the kids of course, but had a great time. i highly recommend this to anyone – go on holiday with your partner for a few days without anyone else. just have some fun and forget about everything else.
esther and kezia had a good time at their grandparents, and jane’s parents enjoyed it too. hoorah !
(we’re already looking forward to our next weekend away to Stockholm next summer …)
here is jane by the seaside:

old toilet

here is a luxury old fashioned toilet we saw in a museum.

glove

here is a glove jane and i found on the way back from the Villa nightclub. i enjoyed the club immensley, but jane wasn’t so sure. part of the problem was that her top became see-through under the ultraviolet lights and all you could see was her bright white bra. this probably wouldn’t have been such an issue, only everyone else there was wearing all black.
the music there was excellent. lots of dark grungey noise – as the evening went on things got poppier. highly recommended.
we left about midnightish so we could get full value out of our hotel ! here was glove we found on the way back:

update: i forgot to mention that some random chap tried to sell us some annadin and a swig of coca-cola whilst we were walking to the nightclub ! he was obviously trying to profit on the back of an urban myth.

mary shelley

did you know Mary Shelley, author of Frankenstein was buried in Bournemouth ? i didn’t. here she is [in her family burial tomb] and me giving a big bald thumbs up

harry ramden’s

jane and i had lunch at Harry ramadam’s Ramsden’s. Fish and chip tastic.
here it is from the outside (Bournemouth sea front)

here is stonehenge built from sugar lumps (sponsored by tate and lyle)

your actual delicious actual fish and actual chips (jane had cod, i had plaice)

jane spotted this playing card on the ceiling. it was signed by Mike so i suspect it was part of a magician’s trick. i haven’t got a 4 of spades in my card collection so i was very pleased.

scum on the groins

sometimes british sea-side resorts have things their foreign counterparts don’t have. one such thing often present is ‘scum’
