we're (hopefully) doing some more of the thames path today.  but not this bit.  as we're still out in the sticks somewhere

i didn't think this blurring worked but then i think it did.  dunno.

i had a day off work yesterday so we could head back to the thames path.

080219_350d_img_2076.jpg

our last outing was in October due to flooding etc. it was still very wet under foot.  but rather than soaking, it was muddy and slidey which made walking tricky

this was our first glimpse of the thames again.  note

kezia brought her camera with her and took this picture of geese

there was a geocache on this bridge

and this is the view from near where we had out picnic
080219_350d_img_2069.jpg

there's a geocache under this bridge only accessible with scuba kit (bollards don't count)

080219_350d_img_2093.jpg

a kite did some acrobatics above our heads just as my camera batteries died in the cold

here's a jetty at benson

when we finally got to wallingford, chris and i took kezia to the pub whilst the other ladies recovered our car from the starting point.  chris wore his hat in the pub and they told him to take it off.  i guess he looked too much like a hooligan youth type.

i don't walk much in a regular day so i've now got a noticable beer/chocolate belly. so i decided to see what i could find within a speedy walk from my office. and i found the thames near Syon House. And it's very nice. i'll be back on a sunny day to get some nicer photos.

there was some big festival thing today on the thames to mark Nelson's death (or the battle of trafalgar or something).

there were loads of rowing boats going by

some little boats had teeny weeny canons, causing worryment when they were let off in the middle of london as they went by

and these chaps seemed to be eating sushi (just like in napoleons time)

and there were also lots of canal boats

hands up if you remember Thames Television ? well, here's a telly floating down the thames
DSC05059.jpg

can you spot it in the big picture ?

i was talking to esther about the thames being tidal and took this photo to prove i wasn't speaking rubbish (she already knows to question everything i say !)

anyway, i thought others might not realise how much the thames rises and falls in an average day. i certainly didn't until i started regularly visiting the south bank for work meetings.

these aren't great photos but may be of interest !

here's another one with some people in to get some perspective:

do you think the problem in the thames may result from the toilets up stream ?

this bridge marks the half way point of the marathon. rain and colness are forecasted for sunday so i suspect it'll match this early morning picture i took last week (though possibly with more people about)
