That's a Mandarin duck. As the name suggests, they are ornamental ducks originally from China. A few have managed to escape from personal collections and are living in little groups here and there. There's a small group on the lake at the Uni too. I love how their wings point upwards like sails.

i've just realised i missed a great title for this picture.

i should have called it "Henley on Thames - home to posh birds".

i think i shall go back and change it now ...

I'm not sure if it is the same one but it looks the same to me. I saw it in Petersfield.

Is this the same duck?

it could be.

pity they don't have name badges and we'd know for sure.

Duck Name Badges.

I'm not sure that would work... imagine all the ducks queuing up to get their badges made. The guy at the desk asks "What name would you like on your badge?"

The only three things I have ever heard a duck say is "Quack", "Quack, Quack" or "Quack, Quack, Quack"

I would think thier would be much room on a duck sized name tag, so they would probably only use the last name.

So I don't think the badges would help.

I love the site, I don't know how you keep it up though. It must take all your time.
